“Ganstas Paradise” has a new meaning. Based out of New York, Kehinde Wiley is known for his exceedingly naturalistic paintings of people with black and brown skin in valiant poses. Wiley’s artworks typically dim the barriers between conventional and modern modes of depiction. Presented in a realistic mode while creating references to particular Old Master paintings, Wiley triggers a mixture of period styles, ranging Islamic architecture, West African textile design to urban hip hop.
